Watertown, New York is a city of 28,000 inhabitants about 20-miles south of of the Thousand Islands region and 70-miles northeast of Syracuse. It is the county seat of Jefferson County.

The numerous falls on the Black River were harnessed for power by industry in the early 19th century in Watertown. The first portable steam engine was built here. This reality has left a rich architectural legacy for current residents to still enjoy.

None other than Frederick Law Olmsted designed this historic park. He is well-known as the architect of Central Park in New York City.

The Dry Hill Ski Area is just south of town. Situated along the northern edge of the tughill plateau, it enjoys copious quantiites of powdery lake effect snow nlowing in off of Lake Ontario. There are nine trails for skiers and snowboarders, and there's a tubing park as well.
