Fort Drum, New York, a US Military reservation located in Jefferson County NY, is home to the 10th Mountain Division of the US Army. The founding of Fort Drum can be traced back to soldiers' stations in Sackets Harbor to enforce the embargo against Canada in the early 1800's. In the early 1900's, the area that comprises Fort Drum was used for military training. Fort Drum was officially founded as Camp Drum in 1951 and became known as Fort Drum in 1974. In 1984 Fort Drum, NY became home to the 10th Mountain Light Infantry Division.
